Canadian Intellectual Property Office
In Canada, each of the above intellectual property categories is governed by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), an agency of Industry Canada. Their web site provides some excellent material for understanding the areas of intellectual property noted on the previous page.
Copying Copyright-Protected Material
It is illegal to reproduce copyright-protected materials without permission – this includes printed materials such as newspapers, periodicals and in-print and out-of-print books. Access Copyright, the Canadian Copyright Licensing Agency (formerly known as CANCOPY), addresses the printed material reproduction needs of businesses, educators, governments and other organizations across Canada by issuing, in exchange for a fee, advance permission to copy from a large selection of copyright-protected works.
